From the sea to La Giro

When I got up, I headed to the market. My intent was to come back with a bunch of fresh shrimp for BBQ shrimp. Did you know that there is no raw shrimp to be had? The guy behind the counter tried to explain why, but he was speaking way too fast for me! So here I am, in a market on the beach, and there are no fresh shrimp.

Time for substitutions. They had a bunch of good-sized langoustines, which are kind of like mini lobsters. So I bought about 45 of them for dinner. I removed the heads and cut through the back of the shell to devein and make it easier to cook.

[He deveins them because he knows that I don't like eating that part. 💜 -v]

After breakfast, we headed back to La Giro.

So not it's my time to write... I had a big idea that we would see a couple of cool things on the way back. I scored on one and completely blew it on the other one.

The first one was called "Voie ferrée sur La Vie." I don't know what that means, but it looked like a cool railroad bridge. So off we go. And we go, and we go, and we go... onto a gravel road, then onto a gravel trail, really... and no Voie ferrée sur La Vie is to be found. Sonofabitch! So that was a bust.

Then, we went to a really old chateau remnant. This place was build before the 14th century.

After the chateau, because it had been more than 30 minutes since our last French food, we cherchoned a place to eat. Finding very few because it was Sunday, we grabbed some kind of bread stuffed with kabob meat - and chips. Not the French lunch I was looking for, but it got us back.

Eric and Anissa Dalle and their daughter, Leonie, came in today, so our numbers are back up. We all had dinner outside watching the cow parade.

This is a cow parade albeit not THAT cow parade!

I went to attend to the snails. I salted them this morning - I guess I could be charged with salt and battery. [🙄 -v] So I had to now rinse them about 12 times and make a broth, in which I cooked them for about 15 minutes. The next step was to remove them from their shells and cut off the “foot.” They are now ready for whatever recipe I use. More on that once I decide.
